How to create an Opt-in List

You can gather mobile numbers in many ways whenever
you have exposure to a potential customer.

Example sources include:

Short Codes

This is the quickest source of opt-in data and can be used as an additional call to action alongside telephone and email addresses. It can be used across many medium, such as posters, adverts, emails, social media as an additional call to action.

Whenever a prospect sees your text call to action, eg text CALL to 12345 to receive our latest offers, they can respond immediately using their phone and they will automatically be added to your contact list.

Online or Paper forms

For example, competition entries, registration details, request for information.

QR (Quick Response) codes

These can be printed on marketing material such as leaflets or posters.

QR codes allow prospects to quickly access information about your business and can link them directly to your site where you can then capture information about them such as their mobile number.

All of these numbers collected can then be added to your opt-in database for future campaigns. It is best practice to provide an opt-out process for any prospects who do not wish to receive further texts from you.

These must be suppressed/removed from future campaigns.

To ensure you collect as many mobile numbers as possible you need to
make sure that there is a good reason for them to give it to you.

Successful campaigns include hooks such as:

  1. Alerts and Information
  2. Offers and Promotions
  3. Information Requests
  4. Booking/Appointment Confirmations and Reminders
  5. Discount Codes and Vouchers
  6. Text to Vote
  7. Text to Win Competitions

More than 8 trillion text messages were sent in 2012.
